Abstracts of Goochland County Wills 1736 - 1742
Adams, Robert. 22 Feb 1738. Recorded: 17 June 1740. Son, James all of my land and plantation on the river whereon I now live, after the death of my wife, Mourning, who is - have this land for life. Son, Robert, all land on the creek whereon I live and the mill. The ridge which is back of my house is the dividig line between my two sons. Daughters: Judith Clark and Mary Moreman, 800 acres at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain. Daughter, Elizabeth Moreman, 400 acres of land on Mychunk Creek next - County Line. Daughter, Agnes Ferguson, 400 acres in the fork of Lickinghole Creek on the northeast side of the land of Thomas Saunders. - daughter, Susanna, 400 acres on southwest side of Francis Coleyshire on which land John Miles now lives. Daughter, Lucy, 550 acres where the mine was dug and where Mark Liveley lived. - daughter, Anne, the younger, 400 acres on Mychunk Creek adjoining my great tract up the creek and is a separate patent. Daughter, Sally, 398 acres on both sides of Dover Mill Creek where I lately dwelt. If any of my maiden daughters die before marriage, their share of the land - be divided equally between my two sons. Chastain, Martha of King William Parish, Goochland County. 23 April 1740 Recorded 20 May 1740. Daughter, Mary Magdalene Chastain the plantation I dwell on and all land devised - me by my husband Stephen Chastain containing 314 acres. If she dies or remains unmarried then the land - be divided equally between my brothers, Peter Dubuy and John Levialain Jr. Also, - my brothers all money in the house and part of money due t me by Edward Hamp-n and William Hamp-n and Matthew Agee, - be equally divided after five pounds is oaken out for Barbara Dubuy's legacy and four pounds for John Farcy's legacy. - my brother, John James Dubuy, land devised - me by my husband bought of Jacob Capon, 46 acres on the south side of the James River adjoining widow Carner and John Harris. Chastain, Stephen. 10 Jan 1732/1733. Recorded 21 Aug 1739. Late of the province of France in Vese in Dauphiny, an inhabitant of Manakin-wn, parish of King William in Goochland County, Virginia. Wife, Martha, my plantation and 40 acres adjoining that bought of Francis and Stephen Farcy and also - her two tracts of land containing 219 acres and the other 200 acres; also a parcel I bought of Jacob Capon containing 46 acres on the south side of the James River adjoining Anthony Ma-n and Stephen Mallet and 12 acres adjoining this I now dwell on. Da ugh deter, Mary Magdalene Chastain, a plat on the fork of Jones Creek on Du-ys branch, 280 acres and 138 acres adjoining and also two tracts adjoining on Du-ys branch containing 800 acres. - my wife and daughter, all negroes and personal goods, equally when my daughter is 21 or married. Wife, executrix. Wit: Thomas Porter, Jean Pierre Bilbout, David Lesueeur, Jean Levilon.

Sons: Thomas, the plantation whereon he now lives, being 250 acres; Robert, plantation whereon he lives, 300 acres; William, 300 acres, it being part of the land which John Prior -ok up. Recorded: 21 Jul 1741. - William Mayo, Gent., in lieu of 36 pds 9 and one half shillings which I owe him, 800 acres in same county, 400 being adjacent - Henry Hudson, Benjamin Harris and James Smith and the other 400 adjacent - John Witt and Benjamin Harris according - patents - Daniel S-ner and John James Flournoy, 16 Jan 1738, with plantation I now dwell on. - David Bell, merchant, in lieu of debt I owe him, 800 acres in same county, 400 acres adjacent - Daniel Guerraud, deceased, and Stephen Chastain, deceased, and John Witt. The heirs of Daniel S-ner, deceased and John James Flournoy, deceased, - make authentic deeds - all of above lands, which were patented by them. Daughter: Judith Chasteen (and her son, Jeff Jeffodon) , a negro, then when he dies - his brothers and sisters. should any of my estate left me by Thomas Jeffodon deceased which I had in my hands delivered - Reny Chasteen - John Jeffodon comes of age, it is - be divided among John's brother and sisters. - my son Peter tract adjoining Mr. Randolph Jr. - daughter, Jane Martin, negroes. Maxey and Sarah his wife, equally.- my son William the remainder of the tract adjoining William Lansdon and John Smith. - my wife, Susannah, the land whereon I now live, for life, and then - go - my two sons, Walter and Silvanus, Walter - have that part adjoining the line of John Radford, which line was William Barnes. Rogers, Robert. 21 Aug 1738. Recorded 18 Nov 1740. Wife, Susanna, all of my land in Goochland County for life, but - have only the house and plantation on the east side of Lickinghole Creek if she marries before my son William is 18. Two sons, David and William, all my lands in Goochland County after death of my wife. William - have the house and plantation on the east side of the creek and David - have the land on the wet side. If both sons die without issue, - go - my daughters, Susanna, Elizabeth and Ann and Caroline, equally. If all die before 21, then land - go - my daughter, Lucy Danson. David (if unmarried) may live with William until he is aged 24 years. William is - ay for building David a house and outbuildings and clearing land before David is aged 21. Wife, labor of negro slaves for life, household items. - daughter, Lucy Danson, negro boy in her possession. - Daughter Susanna, 10 pounds, etc. Executrix, wife, Susanna. Recorded 18 April 1738. - my eldest son, Daniel Scott the land whereon I live in Manacan -wn and 500 acres; also 400 acres on Willis Creek. - son, John, two tracts of land at the ferry purchased from Claudius Gory and Stephen Painter. - son, John, 69 acres and one half on the island in the river; also 300 acres on the Locus Thicket on -tier Creek where John now lives and 100 acres out of aforesaid tract - Andrew Spradling Jr where he is settles. - my sons, Danieland John equally, shares of the 230 acres I bought of Stephen Chastain on the back part of the aforesaid tract. - James Peaty, 90 acres on Muddy Creek provided he pays six months work. Daughter: Frances Scott, the rent from the ferry and ten pds per year which is - be part of her fortune of 300 pds. If she dies, - go - my wife Ann and my sons, Daniel and John. Son, Henry, negro boy and half of land at Seven Islands. If wife is with child, then the child is - have negro Juber when of age.
