Rhea County Genealogy Records

Rhea County, TennesseeRhea County was founded in 1807 and named after Revolutionary War veteran, John Rhea. In 1890, the county seat was moved from the Washington community to its present location in Dayton. This was a result of several causes such as the completion of the Cincinnati-Chattanooga Railroad in Smith's Crossroads, the rapid growth of Chattanooga and the emigration of its prominent citizens after the Civil War. County seat: Dayton.
