KENNETH BAILLIE of Liberty County
KENNETH BAILLIE, planter of a rice plantation in Liberty Co., also owned timber lands and two town lots in Sunbury, Ga., as well as over 1000 acres on St. Mary's Island where his home stood, which he called "Baillie's Island" (located on Medway River). In The Colonial Records of Georgia, by Candler, Renneth Baillie states that General Oglethorpe's plan to cap tute Gugus ti ne would have succeeded had it not been for the cap rains of the boats who did not capture Spanish vessels, which would have prevented the Spanish from coming into Augustine with guns and provisions. While in England, he reported on the cultural conditions of the soil and complaints from settlers for not being permitted negro slaves to work their land. Georgia
Issue of Kenneth Baillie and Elizabeth Mackay, his wife:
- Alexander Baillie, who petitioned in 1752 for 100 acres on Long Island, near the Medway River. He and his wife, Hester Jane (who d. 8/13/1794) lived on their plantation in McIntosh Co., Ga., called "Laurel Hill."
- Robert Carnibe Baillie, lived on Island of Jamaica, but 500 acres in Colony of Georgia, on St. Simon's Island, adj. lands of Mark Carr. In 1755 he was a Surveyor for the Midway District, and /17/1760 qualified as a Member of the House to the Council of the Governor from St. Andrew's Parish. In 1761 he served in the General Assembly and 11/1771 was granted 500 acres on Turtle River, St. Patricks Parish, where he used 20 slaves to cultivate it. Robert was active in His Majesty's politics helping in the affairs of the Council of the Governor in Georgia. When the Revolutionary began, he took the side of England, therefore, in 1782, be was declared a traitor and his estates were seized and confiscated. Robert m. Miss Mary Ann McIntosh, the only sister to General Lachlan McIntosh, who d. 1 /23/1803 st her home on the Sapelo River in McIntosh Co. - Ann Elizabeth Baillie b. 7/27/1749 Liberty Co., Ga., m. 9/19/1765, d. 7/23/1807, Savannah, Ga. m. Dr. John Irvine, b. 9/15/1742 Drum, Scotland, which is located slightly southwest of Aberdeen, d. 10/15/1808 Savannah, Georgia, migrated to America in 1764.

1/27/1787 Elizabeth Fleming, age 16 and Helen Fleming, age 15, daughters of the late David Fleming of Sunbury, Ga., deed, who formerly lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, choose Dr. John Irvfne of Sunbury, Ga. and John Wallace, Merchant of Savannah, as guardians. They are entitled, along with their sisters, Jean Fleming and Beatrix Fleming, as nearest of kin to their deceased uncle, Lt. Walter Boswell, late of Edinburgh, to his estate, and that of their father.

"Whereas, Mark Carr, in the province of Georgia, Esq., did by a certain deed of lease and release executed by him and dated 6/19/1758, convey unto James Maxwell, Kenneth Baillie, John Elliott, Grey Elliott and John Stevens in trust a certain tract of land containing about 300 acres situate on the River Medway, to be a township known by the name of the Town of Sunbury " Liberty Co., Ga. James Graham of Goose Creek, S. C. to David Campbell of Charleston, S. C., Isaac Teasdale, merchant of Savannah, 5/7/1792, for 500 acres in St. Andrew's Parish, Ga., originally granted 7/7/1761 to Kenneth Baillie and by him and his wife deeded to Robert Howorth, who deeded said land to grantor; 750 acres on north branch of Newport River, bounded east by Robert Baillie, originally granted Kenneth Baillie; 700 acres on Island swamp (Camden Co.), same having been granted by Governor of S. C. 5/16/1763.
