Kenneth Baillie of Baillie's Island

Midway Map
Map of Midway, Georgia Colonel Kenneth Baillie, born 1715, left England to the colony of Georgia on October 20, 1736, arriving on January 10, 1736. He was part of a voyage from the Glen of Straldean, Inverness (the Highlands) of Scotland. He established himself as a planter of a large rice plantation of over 1,000 acres on St. Marys Island. His home overlooked the Midway River. When he died in 1766, his children inherited a number of Negro slaves, as well as additional lands, including marsh lands, of over 2,500 acres. His island, where he lived was sold to the highest bidder. His plantation consisted of timber tracts, and he owned two lots in the resort town of Sunbury.
