Jessamine County was established in 1798 from land given by Fayette County. The county seat is Nicholasville. During the late part of the 18th century the Kentucky General Assembly passed a bill to establish a commercial vineyard and winery. Thus, Nicholasville was the first known in the United States, called First Vineyard.
