Marlboro County Probate Records
Marlboro County, originally spelled Marlborough, was created in 1785 as part of the Cheraw District. Marlboro County itself was named for John Churchill (1650-1722) the first Duke of Marlborough and British commander. One of his descendants was Sir Winston Churchill. The county seat is Bennettsville.
Genealogy Tips. . . In 1737, Welsh Baptists from Delaware settled in an area of the county known as Welsh Neck where they were later joined by English and Scotch-Irish settlers. English and Scotch-Irish settlers came to this region to grow cotton.
