ADAMS, William, BLW reg #254310-55, served as Pvt. in Capt. H. Richardsons company under Col A. McClenahan in VA Line. Sarah was his widow and she appl 4 or 24 May 1856 in Henderson Co. TN aged 71, m. 10 Dec 1832 Bedford County TN and her name before her marriage was Sarah Lee. Soldied died New Madrid MO 10 Dec 1837.

Widow's father was Daniel Ziimmeerman, wid appl 25 Nov 1845 Harrison Co. IND aged 78 m. 18 March 1788 Shenandoah County, VA, died 8 Aug 1843, widow was 88 in 1855, daughter Anna signs affidavit.

BOYD, David, R1085, enlisted in Culpepper Co., Va. under Capt. Ladsden; marched to Charleston, S. C. where he served under Col. Pinckney; afterwards transferred to Capt. Clarke's Co., going to Augusta, Ga. Soldier married Sarah Dabney (also referred to sas Sarah Cauthorn), and both of them died 1823 or 1824 in Tattnall Co., Ga. 2/4/1856, their only surviving children, Adin Boyd (son), age 52 and Blanchy Jones, age 68, residents of Lowndes Co., Ga. applied for pension for the service of his father. Not allowed.

BRADSHAW, John, S15760, Virginia, Goochland Co., applied for pension 8/20/1832, stating he was b. 4/18/1763 in co. where he lived all his life except for 2 yrs. residence in Hanover Co. and while in the service of the colonies. Enl. 1778, served 3 mos. as Pvt., Capt. Curds Co. of militia guarding prisoners at Albemarle Barracks. In 1779 enl., 1-1/2 yrs. in Va. Troops, Capt. Tarlton Payne, then Capt. Gray, Col. Richard Parker's 1st Va. Regt.; enl. in Capt. Hugh Woodson, Col. Abraham Buford's Regt.; was taken prisoner at siege of Charleston, but escaped and reached home 6/1781. Enl. 8/1781, 6 mos., Capt. Dudleys Co., Col. Charles Dabney's Va. Regt., discharged after Yorktown.

BROOKS, Nelson, W5912, Virginia, Campbell Co., applied 8/14/1832, stating he was b. 7/5/1760 in Bedford Co., Va., volunteered 7/1779 said co., served to 10/1779. Married Frances Trent.

Resided Goochland County ca 1799-1800.Widow resided in Clermont County, Ohio in 1836. Daughter: Tabitha Harvey, born 1/22/1779, resided in Clermont Co., Ohio since 1836.

Charles City, Md. 11/27/1758 and moved to Fairfax Co., Va. when quite young with parents. 8/1777 when British landed at Elk Riber and marched toward Philadelphia, he vol. under Capt. Thomas Pollard, Col. Rumley of Alexandria; 9/1778 enl. as Marine onboard ship called "Gen. Washington" at Alexandria destined to carry dispatches to France, Francis Speake, Capt., and Samuel Walker, Lt. of ship, sailed for France. 3/1780 enl. as seaman, Capt. Samuel Walker, Capt. Flagg, sailed for Amsterdam in Holland. 7/1781 apptd Corp. by old Capt. Thomas Pollard and marched to Malvern Hills below Richmond, Va. He emigrated to Pittsylvania Co. in 1783 where has lived ever since.

Another tour, same yr., Capt. Thomas Short, marched to James River, disch. Another tour, Capt. Eder Walker, Col. Booker. Was b. 4/14/1760, Nottaway Co., formerly Amelia Co., Va. Now resides Brunswick Co., Va. (refused because less than 12 mos.)

JORDAN, John, S38098, Virginia, Albemarle Co., application dtd 12/14/1811, enl. as Cadet 2/1776, Capt. Samuel Jordan Cabell's Rifle Co.,; was Lt. in Col. Daniel Morgans Va. Regt.; at battles of Trenton and Princeton; was Capt. of Burgoyne and Edge Hill where severely wounded in knee and ill several mos. When recovered, returned to army at S. C., taken prisoner at Charleston; after being exchanged, was Capt. in Col. Posey's Va. Regt., served til 6/23/1782, disch. Savannah, Ga. Disability pension 12/14/1811, lived Albemarle Co. 1827, 68 yrs. old.

JORDAN, Thomas, R5759, Virginia, Page Co., application dtd 10/27/1838, of Anna, aged 87, wid. of Thomas, Pvt. in Val Line, who received disabilities during capture of Hessians at Trenton and received pension as Invalid. She married 10/27/1891 husband who d. 7/24/,1817. Depositions of H. P. A. Davis and William R. Barber who were acquainted with late Mrs. Anna Jordan, wid. of late Thomas, and examined the Family Bible of Gabriel Jordan and wid. who d. 11/5/1838 and Gabriels only living children of Anna and Thomas, on 2/28/1854. Virginia, Page Co., 2/22/1839, Gabriel Jordan, heir of late Anna Jordan who d. 11/5/1838, states that Thomas Jordan married Anna Barbee 10/27/1791 and had surviving children--Mary McDonald and Gabriel Jordan.

Troops, 1777, 20 days, as Pvt., gunner, Capt. Elias Edmund's Co. of Art.; Apr. or May 1781, 2 mos., as Orderly Sgt., Capt. William Jennings, Col. Elias Edmund; 2 mos., same co. Soldier d. 12/1/1841. He married 11/29/1786 Fauquier Co., Va., Susannah Mawzey, her application dtd 5/4/1843, aged 77, refers to her son.

SMITH, Augustine, 823911, Virginia, Nelson Co., appl. dtd 11/1/1832, aged 80, was b. Westmoreland Co., Va., his parents removing to Amherst Co. when he was a small boy. He enl. in 7th Va. Regt., 2 yrs., Capt. Samuel Cabell, Lt. Benjamin Tolliver, in Amherst Co., Va., and received injury in his back, given furlough to recover, but could not walk or get out of bed for several yrs. On the way home, he was met by his bro., John Smith, and Joel Shropshire, both of whom are now dead. He res. Amherst Co., Va. since war, that part which later became Nelson Co. Affidavit dtd 5/26/1835 of Mary Smith, extrx of LWT of Augustine Smith, stating he d. testate 12/1/1832 without a wife or surviving children, that he was never married. Included in file is LWT of Augustine Smith dtd 12/26/1830, pvd 12/24/1832 in Nelson Co., Va., leaving his land and property to his sister, Mary Smith and names two other sisters--Sally Lowe and Judith Smitht disqualifying his bro.-in-law, William Lowe, husband of sister, Sally "who has long been absent" from any benefits.

Peedee River, S. C., Capt. Rush, disch. at beg. of siege of Charleston, served 3 mos. Lived after war S. C. abt 1790 or 1791, moved to Burke Co., N. C. til 1804, then Ky. Soldier married 8/12/1792 in S. C., Elizabeth Ledford, her application dtd 5/23/1850, aged 75, Harlan Co., Ky. Their 8 children living in 1850: Sally Omay, abt 56; Robert; Stacey Turner, aged 46; Mary; William; John; Mary. Two bros. of soldier, John and George Smith. In 1850, Aly Ledford, b. 11/1787, live4 Harlan Co., stated that wid., Elizabeth Ledford Smith, was his niece. One, WilliamLedford, aged 78, lived Yancy Co., N. C. Soldier d. 8/15/1836.

William Dixon was taken sick on Rappahannock and Charles Williams was apptd. Capt.

Daniel Wilson, 3 mos., disch. 4/1/1781. Returne home and entered again as substitute for his father, James Smith, 4/1781, Militia, Capt. William Clark, disch. 7/28/1781. Soldier was b. Md. in 1763 and lived in Halifax Co., Va. when entered service and 5 yrs. after war ended, then moved to Pittsylvania Co.

TOMS, Thomas. An entry for Thomas Toms appears on the 1794 list of Invalid Pension Claims for Virginia. (American State Papers) His entry on the 1794 list of invalid pensioners for Virginia in the Claims volume states that he lived in Albemarle County, Virginia. He was wounded in 1780 at Kings Mountain and claimed a pension relating to the following disability:"Severely wounded on the head, being scalped on the left temple with a stroke from a hatchet, which does much injury to that eye; is also disabled in two fingers on the left hand, and wounded in the right hip and neck; all which he received in the service of the United States, against Major Ferguson, on King's mountain." The examining physician gave no recommendation for pension entitlement.
