Bounty Land Warrant of John Conner BLWt2380-100 VA

Petition for bounty land.

The Heirs of John Conner Soldr. C. L. This soldier has been reported in the printed list of that portion of Armands Corps [Col. Charles Armand, Marquis de la Rouerie Legion] which was credited to Virginia, as part of her Quota, entitled to land from virginia & from the United States. This list No. 6 page 4. This list is a copy of "a Return of men belonging to the State of Virginia, who served in the first Partizan Legion commanded by Brig. General Armand, Marquis de la Rouerie, discharged Novr. 15th 1783." The document will be found in vol. II of "Papers concerning the army of the Revolution" all the Soldiers, named in the printed list of Armands Corps & No 6; whose names are marked with the letter E, have been reported to the Senate of the United States, entitled to land from the United States, for a service to the end of the war, under enlistments for the war. John Conners name is so marked. (See also Senate documents, 1st Session 20th Congress Vol. 2.

It appears, that John Conner enlisted in 1782 for the war, and servd to the 15th Novr. 1783. I report the claim of the heirs good, for bounty land, for the service of their ancestor as above stated. Respectfully submitted/ John H Smith Commander. [illegible abbreviation]

N.B. There were two John Conners, soldiers in Armands Legion, as an inspection of the list will prove. One of them is named on page 4; the other on page 5; of the printed list No 6, the claim of one was reported upon to ye Govt. May 27th 1834. JHS Commander [See endnote.]

I Elizabeth Conner heir at law of John Conner, do upon my oath declare and testify, that to the best of my knowledge and belief the said John Conner did enlist in the year [blank] for the term of during the war and served in the Regiment No [blank] as a Soldier under the command of colonel [blank] and that the said John Conner was from the State of Virginia or of the Virginia line, and that he continued in the service until the war ended. I further declare that I have never received a warrant for the Bounty Land promised to said John Conner on the part of the United States nor do I believe that he ever received it or transferred his claim to it in any manner whatever. At a Hustings Court continued and held for the City of Norfolk on the 28th day of October 1845. The Court doth Certify that it has been proved before the Court by the oath of Elizabeth Mason, that Elizabeth Davis was the only heir at law of John Conner, who was a Soldier in Armand Legion line in the War of the Revolution who died intestate and that Elizabeth Conner, Edy Conner, William Conner, Lydia Williams and James Conner were his heirs at Law, that James Conner is now dead, leaving William Conner, James Conner, Mary Conner and Thomas Conner his only heirs at law and that the said Elizabeth Conner, Edy Conner, William Conner Sr, Lydia Williams, William Conner Jr, James Conner, Mary Conner and Thomas Conner are the only heirs at law of the said Elizabeth Davis deceased.
