Leftwich of Bedford, Caroline, Brunswick and Campbell Counties

The name of Leftwich was originally called Vernon. It was Richard de Vernon who accompanied William the Conqueror into England and was granted an estate in Cheshire, about a mile from Norwich.

The records in Kent County, Virginia reveal that Ralf Leftwich received land grants as early as 1658.

Augustine Leftwich, Sr. removed from Caroline County to Bedford County. His sons, Augustine, Jr., William and Thomas, residents of Brunswick County, enlisted in the French and Indian War of 1757. In 1760 Augustine Leftwich was granted 212 acres of land in Bedford County, on both sides of David Creek. William Leftwich was granted 120 acres on both sides of Buffalo Fork of Back Creek; and Thomas Leftwich was granted 70 acres on the north side of Goose Creek.

Augustine Leftwich was married twice, the last time to Elizabeth, a daughter of George Stovall, Jr. He lived to be a very old age, writing his last will and testament in 1795, mentioning his wife, Elizabeth, as well as his children and grandchildren. Issue:
