Anthony of Virginia and Wilkes County, Georgia


Joseph Anthony, the son of Joseph Anthony and his wife, Susannah (Potter) Anthony of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was born 15 February 1713 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island and died 23 November 1785 in Wilkes County, Georgia. He married on 27 April 1741 in Louise County, Virginia, Elizabeth Clark (born 15 February 1720 in Hanover County, Virginia, died 23 November 1785 in Wilkes County, Georgia. She was a daughter of Christopher Clark and his wife, Penelope (Johnston) Clark. In 1787, Christopher Anthony, still in Campbell County, Virginia, the eldest son of heir of Joseph Anthony, deceased, sold to John Lynch 150 acres formerly owned by Joseph Anthony on both sides of Fishing Creek, on the south side of the Fluvanna River, beginning at Daniel and William Cnalders line, Christopher Anthony being anxious to complete the contract of his father.
