Old Wills Filed in the Perogative Court
The Perogative Court of Maryland was fashioned after the English Court. For most of the colonial period, this is where Wills were filed and issues settled. Effectually, it was the probate court for the colony. In 1777 Maryland implemented its first State Constitution. Until then, probate business was conducted at the capital by the central agency which, for most of the Colonial period, was known as the Prerogative Court.
