Edwards, Marion C., Jr., 1890 graduate, Bachelor of Law, State University, Athens. "was born in Stewart county in 1868, but at an early age moved to Randolph county, where he now resides. He took the literary course at the Southwest Georgia Male and Female college, and began teaching at the age of sixteen. In 1886 he entered the university, but was prevented from completing his course by measles. He entered the law class last fall and has taken a high stand. He came to the university with a splendid reputation for studiousness and oratory, which he has well mantained. He is a member of the Chi Phi fraternity and Phi Kappa literary society, in which latter, he served as a spring debater, deliving an excellent speech. Was junior speaker last year and is an essayist this commencement. He represents his fraternity on the editorial staff of The Pandora, and is first lieutenant of Company A of the Cadets. Emerson, V. E. (female) of DeKalb County was a member of the Sophomore Class of the Southern Masonic Female College in Covington, for the scholastic year ending June 27, 1855.

Emerson, W. H., Professor of Chemistry, Georgia Technological Institute, Atlanta, 1896. "He was appointed a naval cadet from the seventh district of Georgia at the US Naval Academy in 1876 and graduated in 1880. He was placed on the Pacific station in the same year and remained there two years. He was commissioned as ensign in 1882. In 1883 he was placed on the north Atlantic station. He resigned from the navy in 1884 and entered Johns Hopkins University. He was appointed a fellow at the Johns Hopkins University in 1885 and took the degree of Ph. D. in chemistry in 1886. In that same year, he was appointed professor of chemistry in the South Carolina Military Academy, remaining there two years and doing splendid work. In 1888 he was made professor of chemistry in the Georgia School of Technology. He has written a number of interesting articles for The American Chemical Journal and is a member of the American Chemical Society and o f the American Institute of Mining Engineers. Staff Photo.
