Cobb County
Cobb County Probate Records
The county was named for Thomas Willis Cobb, U.S. representative, U.S. senator and Supreme Court judge and the city of Marietta was named for his wife. Cobb did not participate in the North Georgia Gold Rush but in 1832 when the Second Land Lottery parceled out land, many persons from other North Georgia counties removed to Cobb.
Researchers in Cobb County should also research Cherokee and Gwinnett Counties where many of the residents migrated from. Also, old Bartow (Cass)County. The Cobb County Will Book A burned as well as many of the records predating the War Between the States, thanks to General Sherman who lit his torch in Marietta. Earliest Settlers: William Awtrey, John Collins, Sr. from Hall County, John Alexander, William Cummingham, John Lemon, James McDonald.

Research Tips
The Cobb County probate records were never microfilmed. These records were scanned with an ordinary camera. Many of the early records were lost during the Civil War. I would suggest searching for the old Minute Book because it would mention when wills and estates were brought in to be filed. This information would at least provide a date of probate.
