Richard Tunstall owned 357 acres of land in Besto (Bestlands) on the Dragon in King and Queen County in 1782. According to the tax digest he also had a plantation called Purdy which was located on Dragon Swamp listed from about 1782 to 1797 when it was divided between Richard Turnstall (who had 132 1/2 acres) and Thomas Tunstall who received 137 acres of this tract. Thomas Tunstall disposed of the Purdy tract in 1801 and established his home in New Kent County. He built a home on the plateau overlooking the bottom lands of Black Creek. The 1810 census lists Thomas Tunstall as being between 26 and 45 years of age, one male under ten, one female between 26 and 45 and 16 slaves. Known issue:

- Thomas R. Turnstall, born 1833, died 1888 in New Kent Conty. He resided at Oakleigh. He was married to Frances Ellyson (1830-1908) and they were buried in the Ellyson graveyard across the road from Oakleigh.
