Columbia and Richmond counties in Georgia were bustling settlements during the late 18th century. If your ancestors occupied this region, it is wise for genealogists to search the county records in both counties. After the Revolutionary War, many land grants were issued to veterans.

The region around Augusta and the Savannah River was occupied by friendly Indian traders who traded just over the border in Edgecombe County, South Carolina.

The Quaker settlements at Wrightsboro (at one time) fell into Richmond County. After the counties split, Wrightsboro fell into McDuffie County. Nevertheless, Columbia and Richmond Counties contain the Quaker families’ deed records, estates, etc.
