Genealogy Tips.

Benjamin Hawkins, Superintendant of Indian Affairs for the Southeastern United States, was an Indian Agent to the Creek Indians around Crawford County. His fort was in Crawford County and served the region at large. The Creek Indian Wars between 1811 and 1816 included the militia from north Georgia counties. Most libraries have the biography of Benjamin Hawkins which includes names of Creeks and white settlers during those times. If you think an ancestor was in the region during time, I suggest researching the Georgia Militia Records as well as anything on Benjamin Hawkins including Bibb and Houston Counties as well. Macon was an active center of population and merchandising. Also, The Southern Recorder published obituaries, local news, legal notices, etc. for much of South Georgia.
