Bartow County Probate Records
Bartow County was formed in 1832 from the original Cherokee County. It was first called Cass County. (See Cass County Records) The county seat is Cartersville. Research Tips
On May 18th and 19th, 1864 when General George Henry Thomas led the Army of the Cumberland after General William J. Hardee's Corps of the Army of Tennessee led its huge army into the area, the troops were pillaging for food. Things got out of control when they sacked local homes and depleted local supplies. Bartow Citizens never seemed to recover from this calamity and drove families into other regions of Georgia.Marriages
