Washington County Marriages 1834 to 1906



Due to a fire, the court house records for Washington County do not begin until 1852. As this is one of the earliest counties in Georgia, which received persons drawing land from their Revolutionary War service, any supplemental information is helpful. These marriages were extracted from newspaper records.

Brookins to Watkins. Married in Washington County near Sandersville, Sunday, 30th April, by Rev. E. W. Kelly, Solomon B. Brookins to Miss Mary Ann Watkins, both of Baldwin County. Ref: The Southern Recorder, 5 May 1837.

Cullens to Roe. Married at the residence of William A. Skrine, Esquire, Mr. Miles D. Cullens of Washington County to Miss Ann H. Roe, eldest daughter of Alex S. Roe of Savannah. Ref: The Southern Recorder, 6 December 1828.

Fuller to Sessions. Married Thursday, 7th by Hon. Samuel Roberson, R. T. Fuller to Mary B. Sessions, daughter of Benjamin Sessions, all of Washington County. Ref: The Southern Recorder June 1838.

Gardiner to Whiteford. Married John Gardiner to Miss Jane Whiteford, 28th ultimate. Ref: The Columbian Museum and Savannah Advertiser, 9 December 1796.

Haynes to Neely. Rev. W. P. Haynes of Laurens County to Elizabeth S. Neely of Washington County, by Dr. D. J. Bothwell. Ref: The Columbian Museum and Savannah Advertiser, 23 October 1838.

Tennille to Roe. Married at Jefferson Hill in Washington County, Algeron Tennille of Laurens County to Louisa D. Roe of Savannah. Ref: The Southern Recorder 19 January 1832.

Wilkerson, Mr. of Rome to Miss Julia Warthen of Sandersville. TC 10-23-1885

Wootten. Washington, Ga. Uncle Lem Wootten and his estimable wife, who for fifty years have cheered each other's life....yesterday celebrated their golden wedding. They were married in this county on the 29th of January 1835...." Ref: The Constitution (Atlanta) 1-31-1885.
