Stately Oaks Plantation in Clayton County

Stately Oaks Stately Oaks Plantation. This plantation was built ca 1839 and is located 18 miles South of Atlanta. The house was removed from its plantation site and relocated in the town of Jonesboro, and is now part of the tourist trade. The original location could have been near the Clayton-Fayette County line, on Mundy's Mill Road. This is where Margaret Mitchell's grandparents had their plantation, and it is believed that State Oaks might have been renamed "Ashley Oaks" for the purpose of her book, Gone With The Wind. It is a simple floor plan, having several parlors, and an outdoor kitchen.
