Thomas Spalding of Glynn County

Thomas Spalding (1774-1851) assumed the ownership of his father's plantation (James Spalding),
known as
Retreat.
Thomas resided on Sapelo Island in a large house built by his own slaves under the
supervision of Roswell King. He was the great-grandson of John McIntosh Mohr, who
came to New Inverness, Georgia (later Darien) under General James Oglethorpe. He was married
to Sarah Leake.
