Hafner Home
This home was owned by Wyley Abott, bartender, in 1890. Mr. J. J. Lisner, merchant at 300 Gloucester Street, also resided there in 1890. There are 17 rooms in this home. It has five bedrooms, 3-1/2 baths, a double living room, large foyer, and a full attic. The stairwell has a stained glass window on the landing. On the second story there is a room which has thirteen sides (or walls) and four windows, originally used for a card room. Thus, the thirteen sides represent each suit in a deck of cards, and the windows represent the four suits. In 1896, T. J. Mott, a contracted resided there, along with Edward Lang, Clerk. This home was used the movie Conrack, and served as John Voight's apartment in Beaufort. The Hafner family owned a solid walnut, hand-crafted bed which was a gift from Winnie, the daughter of Jefferson Davis, in 1885.
