John Couper of Cannon's Point



Cannon's Point Marker Cannon's Point Marker Cannon's Point Marker John Couper (1750-1850) was born in Scotland and married Rebecca Maxwell (1775-1845)of the Liberty County Maxwells. His plantation was located on St. Simon's Island and known as Cannon's Point, across Jones Creek from Major Butler's Hampton Point Plantation. His plantation grew figs,lemons, oranges, pomegranates, Persian dates, olives and vegetables, and had for its cook,the talented black chef, San Foix.



Hampton Point, on Northside of the Island (now a subdivision by that name).
