Dewes Plantation
Josiah Bryan developed 450 acres of land on Wilmington Island, 10 miles East South East of Savannah, known as Dewes. The land was probably first owned by Captain William Dewes of Charleston, South Carolina. When Josiah Bryian died in 1774, he bequeathed a gold mourning ring to Anne Cuthbert and a suit of mourning to James Robertson. His son, Joseph Bryan, inherited 300 acres of land, with the remainder of the estate to go to Hannah Houstoun. Photos featured are of the Wilmington Island area.
