Holland of Gwinnett County, Georgia and Attala County, Mississippi

 

 

            Solomon Holland was born ca 1768 in Virginia.  He was married to Amelia (Milly) Tarrant, a daughter of Benjamin Tarrant and his wife Martha  (Dalton) Tarrant of Greenville County, South Carolina.  The LWT of Benjamin Tarrant probated 8/20/1819 in Book A, page 305, named his daughter, Milley Holland. Solomon Holland died 12/18/1848 and was buried in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Simpsonville, Greenville County, South Carolina.  Amelia died 2/1849, buried in the same cemetery.  The LWT of Milley Holland was probated 2/10/1849 in Greenville County. She bequeathed her interest in the lands of “my late husband Solomon Holland deceased should at my death, to go to and be invested in my six children by the said S. Holland, vi: William Holland, Elizabeth Robinson, Benjamin Holland, Robert T. Holland, John W. T. Holland and Mary Watson share and share alike…Should there be any remaining part of my personal estate on and above any expenses which may occur I desire that it be divided in like manner subject here however to pay to my three children by my first husband, viz: Tobias Philips, George Philips, and Nancy Barron….”

 

Issue:

 

·        William Holland, called “Buck”, born 11/17/1788 on the Middle Plantation, in Greenville County, died 2/24/1812.

·        Elizabeth Holland, born ca 1795 on the Middle Plantation, in Greenville County, South Carolina, married Mr. Robinson.

·        Robert T. Holland, born 11/27/1795 on the Middle Plantation, Bethel Community, Greenville County, South Carolina, died 12/12/1877, buried in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery.

·        Benjamin Perry Holland, born 9/11/1797 on the Middle Plantation, Bethel Community, Greenville County, South Carolina.

·        John Wyatt T. Holland, born 7/21/1800  on the Middle Plantation in Greenville County, South Carolina, died 5/15/1844, buried in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery.

·        Mary Holland 1803-1853, married Mr. Watson.

 

William Holland, son of Solomon, was born 11/17/1788 in Greenville County, South Carolina, died 11/8/1868.  He was in Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1830, listed on the census; listed on 1850-1860 Attala County, Mississippi Census. Issue:

 

1.      James H. Holland, born 3/24/1813. He was killed on 6/9/1836 by the Creek Indians at Shepherd’s Plantation in Stewart County, Georgia when the militia from Gwinnett County was called out.[1]

2.      Robert T. Holland, born 5/9/1815.  He was killed on 6/9/1836 by the Creek Indians at Shepherd’s Plantation in Stewart County, Georgia when the militia from Gwinnett County was called out.

3.      William K. Holland, born 9/3/1818, died 1/2/1887 Lafayette County, MS. Wife, Jane. He was listed on the 1850 Cobb County, Georgia Census.  He purchased land in Attala Co., MS in 1870 and in 1872, as follows:

d.     John Holland, born 1857 in MS.

e.      Solomon Holland, born 1859 in MS, married Ida Rowell (11/30/1869-4/15/1958).

f.        Didymus (“Dee”) P. Holland, born 3/15/1861, died 5/7/1934 of Coffeyville, MS in the Mississippi State Hospital in Hinds Co. He was married to Mary Ann Harper on 12/25/1881 in Lafayette Co., MS.  Issue:

 

i.                    William Loyd Holland, born 2/26/1883, died 12/30/1959, married 3/12/1905 Sue Emma Vinson (10/9/1887-4/1979), buried  Vaiden Cemetery, Vaiden, MS.[2]  Issue: Delmer Holland who married Theodosia Margaret Miller and had 16 children.

ii.                 Mary Dale Holland, born 4/16/1887, died 11/18/1908 from complications of child birth, buried Hebron Cemetery, Montgomery Co., MS.  She was married to C. T. Vinson on 3/12/1905.

iii.               Mattie Belle Holland married 2/26/1911 Will Hodge.

iv.               Gracie Lee Holland born 9/29/1896 in Lafayette Co., MS, died 2/7/1997 in Yazoo City, MS.  She was married on 12/29/1915 in Attala Co., MS in the home of Rufus Townsend to Boyd H. Townsend (3/10/1894-4/16/1988), buried in Parkway Cemetery, Kosciusko, MS.

4.      Elizabeth Ann Holland was born 9/12/1823, married Eli Tarver.

5.      John W. T. Holland was born 1/14/1826, died 1/20/1891, buried Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Attala County, MS. He was married on 3/1/1855 in Attala County, MS to Bethany M. Price (2/8/1835-10/1/1881).

6.      Mariah L. Frances M. Holland was born 2/29/1828, died 10/12/1898, buried Camp Creek Cemetery, Choctaw Co., MS, married Robert Sweatt.

7.      Martha T. Julia A. D. Holland was born 8/31/1831, died 9/4/1906, married Addison Rosamond (5/25/1825-5/17/1879) on 6/16/1851.

8.      Marcena Charlie G. Holland was born 6/22/1834,   died 3/1/1873, aged 37 years, married Andrew B. Traywick.
