Watson

The first known Watson to Edgefield County was Captain Michael Watson, born ca 1726, died 1782 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. He was presumably the son of William Watson (1695-1757) and wife, Penelope, but there is no proof of it. Michael appears to be a brother of John Watson, after examining the Edgefield County deed records.

John Watson of Edgefield County was born ca 1710. His LWT was signed 4/4/1788. Wife: Ann Murphy. They resided on the Little Saludy River on Mine Creek. He must have died after 1791, because he gave a deed dated 1/5/1791, Edgefield Deed Book 4, pp. 222-223, as John Watson Sr., planter of Edgefield County to my son, John Watson, Jr. of same for love and affection, one Negro man called Joe.
