VEAZEY of Greene County
James Veazey was morn 27 August 1727 in Maryland, died 1 October 1789 near Powelton, Greene County, Georgia. LWT of James Veazey dated 14 October 1788, probated 6 November 1790, Greene County Will Book A & B, page 105, bequeathed wife, Elizabeth all of the estate. He served as a Patriot and Private in the Maryland Line during the American Revolution; Lee's Legion, Maryland Troops, 1776; and was a Private in
the Georgia Militia. He married in 1750, Elizabeth (Hollingsworth) Johnson (1727-1812).

Powells Creek Church in Greene County was organized on July 1, 1786 by Rev. Silas Mercer, the Rev. John Harvey, and Rev. John Thomas, and 26 members. Rev. Jesse Mercer became Pastor of this church on February 4, 1797 and served in that capacity until 1825. During the period of his ministry, 200 persons were baptized into the church.
