Tracy of Bibb County


CAROLINE TRACY b. 1808, widow who owned a plantation and 26 slaves. Her husband was Edward D. Tracy, a Member of the Georgia State Senate in 1839 and Member of the General Assembly of Ga. in 1838; Trustee of Protestant Episcopal Christ Church 12/26/1826, leaving six children at his death. He m. 1st, 11/25/1825, Susan G. Campbell, and after her death, 2nd, Rebecca Caroline Tracy. Children:
    1. ANN TRACY b. 1830 Ga.
    2. PHILEMORE TRACY b. 1831 Ga., Member of the General Assembly of Georgia during 1859 and 1860. He was married on 10 March 1857 to Caroline M. Walker in Bibb County.
    3. EDWARD TRACY b. 1834 Bibb County.
    4. CAROLINE TRACY b. 1836 Bibb County.
    5. CAMPBELL TRACY b. 1841 Bibb County.
    6. H. C. (DAU.) TRACY b. 1843 Bibb County.

The Reverend Lot Jones, while on a missionary tour of Georgia, founded the first congregation organized in Macon, Christ Episcopal Church on March 5, 1825. On December 26, 1826, the Georgia General Assembly enacted, that Christopher B. Strong, Edward D. Tracy, Albert G. Clopton, Addison Mandell and Reuben Burroughs are hereby declared to be a body corporate, by the name and style of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the town of Macon and the County of Bibb. Under the leadership of the Reverend Seneca G. Bragg, the first church building was erected in 1834. 538--566 Walnut St, Macon, GA USA
