THOMAS SMITH


Thomas Smith, Revolutionary War Soldier, was b. In VA, d. 1785 Warren Co., Ga., m. Phoebe. Received bounty lands in Georgia for his service as a soldier of the Revolution. He lived near Augusta, Georgia and the records which are available on his family can be found in Columbia and Warren Counties.
Columbia County, Georgia deed, 1/26/1797, Thomas Smith Esquire of Augusta, Georgia to Polydore Naylor, trustee, for Henrietta Naylor, wife of George Naylor of Columbia County, for 300 pounds, 200 acres conveyed by William Wright 10/6/1787 to Rev. Daniel Sturgis and by him on 9/30/1790 to Thomas Smith.
His Last Will and Testament is dated November 15, 1790, named his wife, Phoebe. Issue:

  • Isaac W. Smith b. 1/9/1787 m. Edy Smith 8/1806. Edy Smith was b. 10/23/1783.

    F. William J. Smith b. 4/9/1817 m. Harriet H. Smith 2/28/1839.
    G. Francis Asbury Smith b. 8/7/1821 m. Mary A. Brady 9/16/1842.
    H. Martha A. Smith b. 7/11/1825 m. Archibald Bigsby 12/11/1839.
    I. Mary C. Smith b. 5/16/1828 m. James M. Shields 12/31/1841.
    After the death of Edy Smith, Isaac Smith m. Lucy Bond, widow of J. M. D. Bond.

  • James Smith married Mary Kirkham 1/9/1796 Columbia County, Ga.
  • Mourning Smith married Benjamin Hardin 6/6/1796 Warren County, Ga.
  • Wilkins Smith married Jinsey Yarbrough 2/19/1793 Columbia County, Ga.
  • Pheba Smith m. Thomas.
  • Thomas Smith, Jr. His Will dated 1796, probated 1797 Warren County, Ga, naming mother, Phoebe Smith. James, the son of Wilkins Smith. James the son of John Travis, and to his sister, Mourning Harden, he leaves "all my part of the Estate of my father, Thomas Smith, deceased.
    Columbia County, Georgia deed, 9/10/1790, Rev. Daniel Sturgis to Thomas Smith, Jr., 375 pounds, two tracts purchased from William Wright by said Sturgis 10/6/1787.

    Warren County, Ga. Deeds, Book A, Page 546-7 , John McGaw of Baltimore County, Maryland to make John Travis of Warren County my attorney, 11/13/1798.

    Warren County, Ga. Administrator's Bonds, Book A, Page 48, "John Travis, deceased, Bond of Amos Travis, administrator 12/1/1817.
    James, the son of John Travis named in the Will of Thomas Smith, Jr., was married to Betsey McIntosh 3/29/1815 in Morgan County, Georgia.
