Descendants of James Taylor



James Taylor was born ca 1627, died 1655 in Surry Co., Virginia, m. Elizabeth Underwood, daughter of William Underwood and his wife, Margaret Roberts, ca 1652 of Surry Co. Elizabeth was b. 1632 in Essex Co., Virginia and died in June of 1673 in Rappahannock Co., Virginia. Issue:

John Taylor was born 1634 in Surry Co., Virginia and m. Ursula Kettle, who was born 1634 in Surry Co., Va. Issue:
  1. Thomas Taylor was born ca 1679 in Surry Co., Virginia, died January 1744 Surry Co., married Elizabeth Jones, the daughter of James Jones and his wife wife, Rebecca Lewis, on 2 August 1704 in Surry Co. This family lived on the southside of main Blackwater Swamp. Issue:
    1. Elizabeth Taylor was b. ca 1707 in Surry Co., Virginia, d. ca 1747 in Sussex Co.,Virginia, married John Chambliss, the son of Henry Chambliss and his wife Mary Moor (Moore) in 1728 in Prince George County, Virginia. John Chambliss was born 1700 in Prince George County, Virginia, died ca 1768 in Sussex Co., Virginia. Issue: John, William, Frank, James, Thomas.
    2. John Taylor died before 1721 in Surry Co., Va.
    3. Thomas Taylor, Jr. died 1758 Surry Co., Va. Surry Co Deed Book 4, p. 37. Date: 21 July 1742: Thomas Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Penelope, deed to David Jones for 20 pds., 285 acres of land located on the southside of main Blackwater Swamp adj. Capt. Thomas Goodwin and John Bower.
    4. Katharine Taylor was buried 1758 in Surry Co., Virginia.

  2. John Taylor, Jr. was born ca 1681 Surry Co., Virginia.
  3. Sarah Taylor. was born ca 1683 in Surry Co., Va, d. August 1741 in Charles Co., Va., married Francis Hardyman, born Charles City Co., Virginia. Issue:
  1. John Hardyman.
  2. Littlebury Hardyman d. Nov 1726 Charles City Co., Va. LWT of Littlebury Hardyman probated Nov 1726 Charles City Co., Va. named brother, William.
  3. William Hardyman.
  4. James Hardyman.
  5. Martha Hardyman.
  6. Francis Hardyman, Jr. d. August 1763 in Charles City Co., Va.
  7. Henrietta Maria Hardyman.


Surry Co., Virginia Deeds #5, p. 380. 9 November 1707 James Taylor and his wife, Mary, deed to Daniel Epes for 30 pds., 166 acres in possession of said Epes, adjoining land of Dorrill Young, Christian Davis, the Owen Branch,and Thomas Lane.

Surry Co., Virginia Deed Book 8, p. 628: 19 October 1736 Thomas Taylor to Thomas Eldridge, attorney, for his son, John Taylor, for love and affection, 400 acres, being all of the land he lives on,located on the southside of main Blackwater Swamp. The land is to be used by Thomas Taylor and his wife, Elizabeth Taylor.
