The first member of the Tarpley family to Virginia was James Tarpley,who was transported to Virginia in 1664. Vol. I, Cavaliers and Pioneers by Nell Marion Nugent:
"Patent Book 4, No. 106, 24 Aug 1664. Richard Webley, Robert Davis and Thomas Freshwater to transport 145 persons to Rappahannock and Northumberland Counties, Virginia.
It appears that the following James Tarpley was his son, although I have not found a record to prove it as fact.
James Tarpley was born 1657 in Richmond Co., Virginia, died 5 Aug 1713 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Va. LWT of James Tarpley probated 5 Aug 1713 Richmond Co., Va. He married Mary Peachy, a daughter of Samuel and Mary Peachy who was born 1670 in Richmond Co.

James Tarpley was born 8 May 1692 North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va, died 1765 in Charlotte Co., Va., m. Mary Camp, daughter of Thomas Campe and Catherone Barron, on 5 Jan 1733 in King and Queen Co., Virginia. Mary died in 1758 Richmond Co. Issue:
Thomas Tarpley born 28 Oct 1734 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va, died 8 Aug 1788 in 96th District, S. C, buried Charlotte Co., Virginia m. Mary Camp, daughter of Thomas Camp and Winifred Starling on 3 April 1759 in Culpepper Co., Va. She died on 11 Sept 1786 in
Charlotte Co., Va.

Mary Tarpley born 30 Oct 1740 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va., died 17 Aug 1789 in 96th District, S. C. m. John Camp, son of Thomas Camp and Winnifred Starling, on 1 Jan 1764 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia. John Camp was born 13 Oct 1743 Orange Co., Virginia, died 1818 in Jackson Co., Georgia, buried in Lebanon Methodist Church, near Princeton, S. C. Issue: Annie Naomi, Thomas, Winifred, James, Starling, William, Abner, Keziah, Sarah and John Camp.

Elizabeth Tarpley was born 6 Aug 1746 North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va.
Winnifred Tarpley was born 9 June 1748 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va m. Nathaniel Camp, son of Thomas Camp and Winnifred Starling, was born 1745 in Orange Co., Va. He died after 1832 in Gwinnett Co., Ga. Nathaniel Camp married a sisters to the wives of his
brothers, John and Thomas. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier who fought in the Battle of King's Mountain in North Carolina. Issue: Hosea, Winifred, Benjamin, Camie Jane, Washington, Thomas Harper, Elizabeth, Polly, Nancy and Thomas H. Camp.
Nancy Anne Tarpley was born 6 Oct 1750 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va. She died 1814 in Walton Co., Ga. She m. Thomas Camp, son of Thomas Camp and Winnifred Starling, about 1763 in Richmond Co., va. Thomas Camp served in the 4th S. C. Regt. Artillery as a Pvt in 1776, under the command of Col. Barnard Beekman. Issue: Bradford, Larkin, Sarah, Hosea, Sherwood,Burrell, Thomas and Nancy Camp.
