The name Tapley is a rare name in the records. The first record I found of the name in Virginia, was Adam Tapley located in Prince George County as early as 1679. (Prince George was taken from Charles City County in 1704).

With Adam Tapleys land interests in Surry County, note Moses Tapley,
as follows:
Surry County, Virginia Deed Book #8, p. 188, on 5 May 1732 Richard Smith deeded to Moses Tapley 250 acres (being the land granted to said Smith on 22 Feb 124). Ann Smith relinquished her Right of Dower. Wit: James Mathis, Jr., James Loftin and Adam Tapley.
Members of the family must have drifted into Georgia where
we find continous repetitive first names, i. e....Adam, Mark and Joel.
Mark Tapley b. ca 1740, d. 1788 Warren or Columbia Co., Ga.
The family appears to have originated in South Carolina. There is so little data on it that I traced all the Tapley's in Georgia and put them together in family groups. The collage is fairly accurate; however, lacks substantiating proofs. Issue:
