Steele Genealogy
ISAAC STEELE, SR., Revolutionary War Soldier, served in S. C. Troops, b. 1737, d. 1803, m. Grissel Dixon, b. 6/10/1750 in Abbeville,S. C. in 1768. After the death of her husband, Grissel removed to DeKalb Co., Ga. where she remained for sometime with her children. Grissel d. 8/1848 Benton Co., Ala. at the home of her youngest child,Jane Barnett. Isaac Steele, Jr. applied for the pension of his father from DeKalb Co., Ga., giving these facts. Isaac Steele, Sr., made his LWT dtd 3/13/1802, pvd 3/15/1803, WB A, P. 34, Pendleton Dist., S. C., naming children. Bible of Isaac Steele, Sr., owned by Grayum Steele. Isaac Steele, Sr., received a land grant of 150 acres in
Abbeville Co., Alexanders Cr., br. of Little River, 8/9/1786.
Isaac Steele was one of purchasers on est. of Thomas Turner 4/4/1797
Pendleton Dist., S. C. The inv. dtd 11/17/1796, one of appraisers:
Isaac Steele (as shown by Priscilla, James and
William Turner.
The affidavit of Isaac Steele, Jr. in DeKalb Co., on Revolutionary
War Claim #R10094 stated that he always understood from his father
and mother that Isaac Steele, Sr. served in the S. C. Troops, but
cannot give particulars, since his father died many years ago, before
1800. His mother d. 8/1843 Benton Co., Ala. at home of her youngest child, Jane Barnett. The children then surviving were: William Steele,
John Steele, Moses Steele, Jane Barnett and Isaac Steele, Jr. His
mother told him that they lost their crops because Isaac Steele was
away in the war, under command of Capt. Moses Liddel.

AARON STEELE of Abbeville Dist., S. C., appears to be a brother of
Isaac Steele, Sr. be inv. of Aaron's est. was made 12/14/1795 by
William Pickens, Sr., James Carlile and Robert Davis. In 1801 a
legacy was paid to .Jean Steele and Aaron Steele, Jr. "legacy left him
by his grandfather", and William Steele, James Steele.

11/9/1795, names exrs. John Caldwell and wife, Elizabeth Steele.

Alexander Steele of Washington-Greene Co. deeds to Littleton
Chambless of Wilkes Co., 50 acres on Ogeechee River purchased by Steele from John Ledbetter 5/28th last. (Warren Co. Deed).
Alexander Steel m. Polly Harper 6/8/1804 Greene Co. After his death,
she later m. Doctor Brown 7/1813 in Clarke Co., Ga. and they
removed to Newton Co., Ga. The LWT of Robert A. Steele of Newton
Co. dtd 3//1844 names his mother, Mary D. Brown to whom he leaves
his lots in Carroll and Cherokee Co.'s; also names Elonza D. Brown
and Clover P. Brown.

in Henry Co., Ga., listed on 1830 Henry Co. Census.
Another Steele family in Henry Co., Ga. was MARTHA STEELE, b.
1800 in S. C. who was a widow in 1830. She is listed on 1830-50
Henry Co., Ga. Census. Her family removed from S. C. to Georgia
