Springer of Wilkes County
John Springer, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware in 1744 and died in Washington, Georgia in 1798. He married Ann Green, a daughter of William Green, Revolutionary War Soldier of North Carolina, and his wife, Mary (Christmas) Green.[1]
His LWT was dated 1795, probated 19 December 1798 in Wilkes County. To his wife he bequeathed the land whereon I now live, slaves, etc. for life. To daughter, Sally, a slave (Aggy) received as security from Colonel Cocke of Augusta, and the land on which she lives. He confirmed a gift of slaves to daughter, Elizabeth in 1782. To daughter, Nancy and son, William, land in Hancock County purchased from Nathaniel Christmas. To daughter, Susannah, land in Pendleton County, South Carolina, slaves, etc. To daughter, Mary Ann, a tract of land where I live, after my wife is deceased. Mentions the "children by my present wife". Executors: Wife, father-in-law, William Green, and brother-in-law, Solomon Green.[2]
The LWT of Ann Springer was signed 28 May 1827, probated 2 May 1836 in Wilkes County, left Eli Baxter of Hancock County in trust for my son, William G. Springer and his wife and children, one third of my land in South Carolina and several slaves. To: Osborn Stone, James Wingfield, Bolling Anthony and William Dunlap all other property in this and other states, in trust for my daughter, Lucinda T. Garvin and her husband, Robert M. Garvin and their children. Having given to daughter, Catheriine, her share, nothing to her now. Son: William G. Springer, executor.
