JOHN SMITH of Putnam County


The last will and testament of John Smith dated 7/8/1823 was probated 3/1/1824, Butts County, Georgia, headed: Of Putnam County, Georgia. Left his wife, Ann 100 acres of land in Henry County, being Lot 186 1/2 in the First District. Native of Virginia. Ann's Will dated 1/12/1838, probated 4/9/1838 Putnam County, Ga. Children:
The Southern Recorder, published Milledgeville, Ga on 11/16/1841, "On the 26th ult., of wounds received in affray, Mansel J. Smith, a native of Virginia, but many years resident of Georgia. Survived by his widow."

Page 281, Butts County Estates, Richmond Brown, Anderson Brown and Charley Ramey apply for administration of the property of John Smith, late of Putnam County, 5/27/1827.

Page 403, Deed Book A, Butts County Mansel Smith, Eli Conger and Charley Ramey pays $500 to make an accounting of the administration of John Smith,late of Putnam County, 5/5/1828.

Milledgeville Journal, "died at Eatonton August 16, 1824, John H. Smith, Justice of Inferior Court, Clerk, Superior Court, Putnam Co."

BANISTER SMITH


Banister Smith was listed on the 1830 Putnam County, Ga. Census. Wife, Gilly. His Will dated 12/9/1831, probated 2/6/1832 names Peyton Smith, his youngest son.

"Mrs. Peyton P. Smith died at Greensborough, Georgia November 7, 1838, age 29. She was the consort of P. O. Smith of Georgia M. E. Conference, a native of Florida, born at St. Augustine, Florida 4/19/1809. On September 21, 1830 she married Joseph H. McClellan of Camden County who died before twelve months. She then married P. O. Smith April 3, 1834. She leaves four surviving children, one by the first marriage, all living."

The Will of Dorothy Smith dated 5/27/1820, probated 12/28/1825 Putnam County, Georgia, names children:
The Georgia Messenger dated 11/21/1810, "Winnie Smith and W. D. Lane, Administrators of Abraham Smith, leave to sell."
