Henry Smith, Revolutionary War Soldier, drew in Ga. 1827 Land Lottery, land in Lee County which was granted in 1836 and land in Muscogee County, granted 1829. Page 77,78, Book A, "Georgia, Monroe County, " 6/8/1822, Henry Smith of Jones County to Isaac Phillips of Monroe County for $200, 50 1/2 acres, 1/4 of Lot 285 in 13th District of Monroe, being the SE corner of above named lot, one side the lines of Brady & Howard, on the west side of the Ocmulgee River and on the waters of said River.

Augustus G. Smith was married to Martha Ann Mays 12/8/1842 Monroe Co. Ga. His Will dated 4/23/1847 Monroe County, Ga. names wife and children: Augustus G. Smith names his father-in-law, James Mays, in his Will. His wife, Martha, listed on 1850 Monroe Census, born 1821 Ga., with her two children, John R. Smith and Augustus G. Smith.
  • John Richard Smith. His Will dated 3/4/1870 Monroe County, names wife, Eliza, his half sister, Mattie G. Brown, and the children of Mrs. Julia Jordan. Born 1834 Monroe County, Ga.
  • Augustus C. Smith (3/5/1830-4/20/1907). He m. Sarah Jane Phinazee (b. 9/15/1835- 12/31/1919)of Monroe Co. 12/16/1852 at the residence of H. Phinazee by Rev. Absalom Ogletree. His Will dated 6/24/1905 Monroe County, names wife, Sarah J. and sons, Asa H. Smith, James M. Smith and B. Lee Smith. Also, his grandson, Harold M. Griffin. Born 1837 Monroe County, Ga.

REV. ISAAC SMITH of Monroe County


Isaac Smith was b. 1758 in New Kent Co., VA, d. 1834 Monroe Co., Ga. Revolutionary War Soldier, enlisted as Sergeant in the 1st Virginia Regt. In 1831 he was placed on the pension roll. He m. Rebecca Gilmore. Rev. Isaac Smith, Rev. War Soldier, applied for pension, W3338, m. 1/1/1794 Ann Rebecca Gilman (b. 1773) He d. 7/12/1834. He fought in the Revolutionary War under Gen. Washington and though his term expired before close of war, he was one of volunteers at the capture of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown. Afterwards, he retired from military life and became a Methodist Minister. In 1818, according to his pension, he lived at Camden, S. C., aged 61. His wid., Ann R. named in pension along with daus. Jane and Elizabeth and son, Isaac, Jr. From newspaper The Southern Recorder 7/24/1834, "Died Rev. Isaac Smith, age 76. Revolutionary War Soldier serving under General Washington Lived in Camden, S. C., later entering the travelling ministry. Died at the residence of his son-in-law, Rev. W. C. Hill, in Monroe County Sunday morning, 20th inst."
