CHARLES SMITH of Jackson County



Revolutionary War Soldier, was b. 1737, Halifax Co., Va., the son of John Smith, b. 1715 who m. In 1736 Halifax Co., Va., Mary Colston, the daughter of William Colston of VA; and the grandson of William Smith and his wife, Ann, who lived and died in Warsaw, Richmond Co., Va. Charles Smith d. In Jackson Co., Ga. He married in Halifax Co., Va. In 1760, Elizaabeth Hendrick, the daughter of John Hendrick who married Tabitha Hurt (dau. Of Joel Hurt and Tabitha Collins). He enlisted in the war from Greenville Co., S. C., where he had moved with his family, settling on the Tiger River. He served in Capt. Barnetts Co., Hamptons Regt., in Sumpter's S. C. Brigade, receiving bounty grant of land in Georgia in 1786 for his services.

March 3, 1806, Letters of Administration issued to John James and Alexander McHargue. November, 1802, Jackson County, Charles Dougherty was appointed the guardian of Charles Smith, Eliza Smith and Lucy Smith.

JOHN SMITH


John Smith, Revolutionary War Soldier, who drew in 1827 Georgia Land Lottery, land in Lee County, which was granted in 1834. John Smith was listed on 1798 Jury in Jackson County, and married 1/23/1808 Esther Gillespie, Jackson County.
