JOHN SMITH


John Smith, Revolutionary War Soldier, his claim for pension, R9831. b. 6/1/1759 Cumberland Co., Va, lived Surry Co., N. C. when enlisted in the war, d. 7/18/1838 Clarke Co., Ga. He drew in 1827 Land Lottery, granted land in Lee Co. in 1835, and land in Troup Co. in 1836. Wife, Polly, named in his LWT, mentions "all my children." LWT dtd 7/11/1838, pvd 9/6/1838 Clarke Co., Ga. Known children:

John Smith was listed on the 1805 Clarke Co. Land Lottery; drew in 1820 lottery, land in Irwin Co., granted 1821. Wife, Sarah. His LWT dtd Walton Co., Ga. 4/1839, stating he is "of advanced age" and naming his wife and children:
  1. Joseph Tarpley Williams
  2. Mary Williams
  3. Robert Harris Williams
  4. Osborn Rogers Williams.
