Abner Smith, Revolutionary War Soldier, was b. In Ireland; settled in South Carolina; was wounded in the battle of Sullivan's Island. He received a pension as a resident of Coweta Co., Ga., where he died.

From Vol. I, Memoirs of Georgia, Page 405-6, published in 1895:
"Abner B. Smith, planter, Fairburn, Campbell County, Ga. Four miles
southeast of Fairburn, on one of the best plantatiors in the county lives Abner B. Smith...He comes from one of the pioneer families, being the son of John B. and Temperance (Bailey) Smith and was born in Campbell County Dec. 4, 1842. The grandfather, Abner Smith, was a native of Ireland, having emigrated to South Carolina before the Revolutionary War. Late in life he, with his children, removed to Coweta County, settling in the northern portion, on land obtained from the government, being a pensioned soldier. However, he died within two weeks of his arrival in the county. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, during which he was wounded on Sullivan's island. He was twice married in Ireland, both wives dying there. The children grew to maturity, were married and were widely scattered. Soon after the Bailey family came to Georgia from S. C. One of the daughters, Temperance, became the wife of John B. Smith. Eleven children were born to them, five of whom are living: Melvina, widow of Hubbard McWaters, Camp County, Texas; Abner B., the subject of this sketch; William M., Camp County, Texas; Thomas J., Campbell County; Louisa, wife
of James Nixon, Campbell County. The deceased children are: Jesse F., member
of a Texas regiment during the war and died of disease at Little Rock, Ark; John,
Fannie, Elizabeth, Moses N. and James B. The father was a nustice of the
peace from his 22nd year up to the day of his death, which occurred in `1856,
the mother dying recently at the age of 76 years....To the marriage of Mr.
Smith to Miss Mary H., daughter of Willis Morgan, which occurred 2/8/1866,
nine children have been born: Albert Sydney, Bell County, Texas; Jennie,
wife of Dr. Camp, Fairburn; T. E., Atlanta; Mittle, deceased in infnancy; Neva A., wife of John Carthron, Campbell County; Gertrude E., Dora E., Rosa Lee and Christmas Belle, all at home."
