GEORGE AUGUSTUS SMITH

Born February 22, 1788 in London. His obituary was published in the Georgia Messenger dated May 24, 1838 as follows:

George Augustus Smith, born February 22, 1788 London, was the grandson of Lord Chesterfield. He lived on his plantation near Macon, called 'Windsor Hill.' He was married to Agnes Harrell, the widow of John Lachland McIntosh. Mr. Smith's original name was 'Stanhope', but was changed to Smith upon reaching America.

Windsor Hill Plantation would be on Windsor Hill Road in Macon (No marker). The Last Will of George Augustus Smith is dated 12/23/1835 in Bibb County, naming his wife, Agnes, and "all my children." The widow, Agnes Smith, is listed on the 1840 Bibb County Census. Known children:

George A. Smith, born 1825 Georgia, Candy Merchant, married Adelphia Ann S. Cook 12/9/1845 Bibb County, who was born 1829 in Georgia. Listed on 1850 Bibb County, Ga. Census. Children:

JAMES SMITH

James Smith was listed on the 1830 Bibb County Census. His Will dated 4/28/1830, probated 6/24/1830, Bibb County, names wife, Mary Jane, and children:

Stephen Smith married 7/18/1834 Harriett Bosworth in Bibb County. He was deceased in 1850, with Harriett Smith listed on 1850 Baldwin County Census, aged 49, with children:

An early pioneer settler to Bibb County, owned land in the 13th District of Monroe County, Land Lot 330. His Will dated Monroe County, Ga., January 19,1823, probated 6/5/1823 Bibb County, Ga., names wife, Dolly, and children:

Loty Smith married Richard Brady 8/2/1818 Jones County, Ga.
Susannah Smith married David Howard of South Carolina, lived near Macon, Georgia. She was born 12/1/1799, died 11/28/1865.
Esther Smith married Mr. Single.
Mary Smith married Mr. Tompkins. She attended Wesleyan Female College in 1839.

He m. 2d, Jane Wardlow, on 9/17/1829 Bibb Co. Ezekiel was mentioned in the Will of his brother, John C. Smith, dated 3-9-1823, probated 3-10-1823, Jones Co., Ga. (Names wife, Elizabeth and children, Jonas Shivers Smith and Columbus Washington Smith). Children:

James Smith, attorney, was born 2/24/1786 or 1788 in Georgia, Attorney, wife, Eliza, born 1794 Georgia, listed on 1840-1850 Bibb County Census. He died 5/5/1852 in Macon, Bibb County. He was married to Eliza Cleveland, born 6/8/1792 in Franklin County, Georgia, died 3/11/1879 in Macon, on 5/1/1810 in Morgan County. She was a daughter of John Cleveland and his wife Catharine (Sloum) Cleveland of Franklin County. Children:

Juliet Ann Smith, born 3/9/1811 in Jones County.
Martha Caroline Smith, born 2/10/1813 in Jones County, died 8/27/1884 in Atlanta.

Joseph Smith was born 1782 in Ireland, Cotton Dealer. Listed on 1850 Bibb County, Ga. Census. His wife was Mary, and her death recorded in newspaper, Georgia Messenger, dated May 24, 1838:

Mrs. Mary Smith, Consort of Joseph Smith of Macon, died on the 16th.

Listed on 1850 Bibb Census with Joseph Smith was: Elta Sims, age 18, and Patterson Sims, age 8.
