Slatin of Fulton County
Major William Franklin Slaton was born 1851 in Georgia. He was professor of Boys' High School in Atlanta in 1897, and later became Superintendant of the Atlanta Public Schools. He married Nancy Martin and the family resided in Atlanta, Fulton County. Issue:

John Marshall Slaton, born 25 December 1866, died 11 January 1955, buried Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta. He was married on 12 July 1898 to Sally Francis Grant of
Atlanta. He was Governor of Georgia, sworn in as Governor Hoke Smith's successor on November 15, 1911, to serve for two months and ten days. In 1913, he was inaugurated as Georgia's Governor.
"The Augusta Chronicle has the following to say of Georgia's new Governor--Hon. J. M. Slaton: - Hon. John M. Slaton goes into the high office as governor enjoying
the good will and high esteem of all the people of the state. That his administration will reflect credit on him and will redound to the wellbeing of Georgia
is the promise and the prophecy. He assumes the governorship at an important time in the history of the state. Men in position to know declare that
Georgia is on the eve of great development...." The Marietta Journal and Courier dated 4 July 1913.
