Serena Smith of Stewart County


Mrs. Serena Smith of Lumpkin passed her ninety-first birthday in June of 1907 and was featured in the Atlanta Journal. She was born June 3, 1816 in Washington County and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Williams of Augusta. She spent her early childhood in Macon, it being then only a small town. In 1836 she was married to Steve W. Thomkins of Stewart County who lived only six months after their marriage. She afterwards was married to Mr. John Smith of Stewart County. She was the mother of ten children, one of whom gave his life in the civil war. Other children then living: Mrs. Carrie Seay of White Springs, Florida; Mrs. E. J. Scott and Mrs. J. M. Stevens of Lumpkin, Georgia. Serena resided in the same place she had moved to 69 years prior.
