SAVAGE of Virginia
In the year of 1066, Thomas de Savage came from Normandy to England with the Army of William the Conqueror. His name appears on a list of Normans who survived the famous Battle of Hastings.
Thomas Savage was born 1594, died in Northampton County, Virginia in 1627. He immigrated to Virginia from Cheshire, England in 1607 onboard the vessel John and Francis. Thomas Savage was the first white settler on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, who came to the Colony with Captain Christopher Newport in January of 1608. He lived among the Indians, and was given 9,000 acres of land by Chief Iomeesechemee, which he called "Savage's Neck". During the Indian Wars of 1624, he served as an Ensign. He married Hannah Tyng, and had one son, viz:
Captain John Savage of Savage's Neck, Northampton County, Virginia, was born in 1624, died 1678. He served as a Justice and Member of the House of Burgesses in Virginia. He married (2) Ann Elkington (2) Mary Robins, the daughter of Colonel Obedience Robins. His LWT dated 1678 Northampton County, Virginia. Issue:
Captain Thomas Savage of Savage's Neck, Virginia, served in the Indian Wars. He married in 1702 Alicia Harmanson. He died June of 1728. Issue:
Captain Thomas Savage of Savage's Neck, Northampton County, Virginia, was an Officer in the Indian Wars. He married 9 November 1722, Esther Littleton, the daughter of Colonel Nathaniel and Susanna (Waters) Littleton. He died April 1737, LWT, Northampton County, Virginia. Issue:
Thomas Savage of Northampton County, Virginia, enlisted in the Continental Army on 19 March 1778, in Captain Adam Wallace's Company, 5th Virginia Regiment. He married Elizabeth Bell, the daughter of Ezekiel Bell. Thomas Savage died after 19 December 1795. Issue:
Elizabeth Savage married her cousin, William Bell, who served during the Revolutionary War in the 3rd Company, 9th Virginia Regiment.
Thomas Lyttleton Savage (8 January 1760-1813) or Northampton County, Virginia, was a descendant of Ensign Thomas Savage.
