JOHN RUSSELL

John Russell died in Wilkes Co. in 1808. The Inventory, etc. of his estate was recorded on 27 April 1808, Wilkes Co. Book MM, page 28, and the Sale of his goods was performed at the house of John Combs. On 10 Dec 1807, Nathan Blackburn was appointed administrator of the Estate of John Russell, page 173, Wilkes Co. Minutes of the Inferior Court. He lived on Newford Creek, now Lincoln County. His wife, Clarrianne Russell, made her LWT dated 25 Nov 1820, probated 2 June 1821, Lincoln Co., naming their children:

• Benjamin Russell, eldest, was born 1783 in South Carolina, and was listed on the 1830-1850 Bibb Co. Census. Wife, E., born 1793 S. C. Issue:

  2. William Russell b. 1826 Ga. m. Rachel Chambliss 5 Jan 1851 Bibb Co., the daughter of Samuel Chambliss.

• Thomas Commander Russell, eldest, m. 1st, Mary Rhodes, Wilkes Co., and 2nd, Sarah Holtzclaw, Wilkes Co. on 6 Feb 1812. A deed dated 2 April 1790 between Thomas C. Russell and his wife, Mary, to Col. Holman Freeman for 650 acres whereon said Russell lives, bounded N by the Broad River, E by Benjamin Ragland, S by Thomas Owens, W by Allas Mills and Holman Freeman. Another Wilkes Co. deed, Deed Book CC, p. 81, Bryan Ward of Franklin Co. to Thomas Commander Russell, 600 acres on Broad River adj. Allas Mills and Benjamin Ragland, obtained as headrights by said Ward, 17 April 1787. Another Wilkes Co. Deed, Deed Book GG, p. 253, Thomas Commander Russell to Esther Singletary Starnes, slaves, viz: Jack, Hannah and Jenny, Bill of Sale dated 17 Oct 1790. Eliza Starnes, Mark Jackson, Jr. and Holman Freeman, J. P., testators.
