Rankin of Muscogee County

Apparently there were several brothers who were born in Scotland and settled in Muscogee County, Georgia. William Rankin, whose LWT was probated 24 June 1859 in Muscogee County named his brothers Odom and James. Sisters: Sarah Grieve, Ann Rankin and Elizabeth Thompson. Sister-in-law, Agnes Rankin, wife of James. James A. Rankin was born 4 Feb 1806 in Ayrshire, Scotland and died in Columbus, Georgia on 20 June 1880. He was married in 1839 to Agnes Afflick, born 12 June 1816 in Haddenton, Scotland, died 1 Oct 1901 in Columbus, Georgia. The marriage occurred in Muscogee County. Issue:

• Agnes Rankin, born 1840 in Columbus, died 1 Oct 1901.
• Emma Jane Rankin, born 28 Feb 1842 in Columbus, died 6 Aug 1919 in Columbus, buried in the Linwood Cemetery.
• William Rankin, born 23 Aug 1843 in Columbus.
• Henrietta Rankin, born 1844 in Columbus, died 1 Apr 1898 in Columbus.
• Edwin James Rankin, born 1 Mar 1855 in Columbus, died 5 Nov 1919 in Columbus.
• John A. Rankin, born 10 Mar 1857 in Columbus, died 12 Mar 1927.

The Rankin house was built by hotel owner, James Rankin, in Columbus, Georgia after the end of the War Between the States.
