Pye Genealogy
Henry Pye was born ca 1799 in Georgia, died 20 March 1826 when he went to Macon on Business in March of 1826 and upon returning home, being about two
miles west of Montpelier Springs, an ox cart ran over him. He died on March 20th. He married on 19 January 1818 in Putnam County, Ann Stockdale (born ca 1797 near
Tarboro, North Carolina, died 27 March 1841 Monroe County, Georgia). His widow, Ann, died on 3/26/1841. The LWT of Mrs. Ann
Pye dated 19 May 1837, probated 6 July 1841 in Monroe County, named children, viz: Jesse, John and
Martha. Issue:
I. Jesse Pye was born 7 September 1819 Putnam County, Georgia, died 6 February 1842, married
Louvenia M. Sullivan on 15 November 1841 Monroe County. Listed on 1830 Putnam County Census.
II. John Pye was born 3 August 1823 in Monroe County, died 6/5/1897 in Talbot County. He was married (1) on 1 February 1843, Priscilla
W. Sullivan (2) 8 December 1853, Sarah Ann Chambliss, in Monroe County. The family removed to Talbot County into an area known as The Neck.
In 1852 he purchased 229 acres of land in The Neck and this is the farm upon which he resided until his death. He was buried in the family
cemetery near Pleasant Hill. The words on his tombstone read:
With life and name unstained, the good man dies, and God gave - He took -
He will restore; He doeth all things well. Sarah Ann Chambless was the daughter of Henry and Rachel (Danielly) Chambliss, born 5/30/1831 in
Warren County. (SEE Chambliss). Sarah Ann died 11/9/1834.
Issue of John Pye and Priscilla Sullivan:
A. Jesse Binire Pye (17 January 1844-27 April 1874). Jesse enlisted into the Confederate Army 9/10/1861 in Capt. Levi B. Smith's company, Col K, 27th
Regt. Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee. He was appointed adjutant of the company on 5/2/1864 and afterwards wounded in the leg and hospitalized at Raleigh,
North Carolina on 3/21/1864. He never married. The words on his tombstone read: The days he spent on earth were few, His may friends his
name repeat: His Morals, Honor, Truth, Virtue, His only aim the Mercy Seat.
B. John Henry Peye (24 July 1845-8 October 1850 Monroe County). He served in Co. K of the Georgia State Troops. During the war,yankee scaveners fired his
cotton gin, destroyed cotton and burned the screw. On 1/31/1853 John Pye purchased 229 acres of land from Thomas Nelson, being half of Land Lot No. 237 and the
western portion, being 128 acres of Fractional Land Lot 238, all in the 23rd district, for $2,000. On 10/3/1860, he purchased 95 acres of land from William
H. Barron on the southern half of Land Lot 237 for $931.50.
C. Mary Ann Pye (3 June 1848-2 September 1848 Monroe County).

D. Joseph Christopher Pye, born 9/14/1854, died 1/20/1925, married Hattie Manolia Norris of Upson County on 1/15/1890. Hattie was born 4/30/1865,
died 7/9/1945. Pye was a merchant at Pleasant Hill and farmer. He removed to Woodland abou6 1906, with coming of the railroad. They had
four children as follows:
- Harvey Norris Pye, born 12/22/1890, married on 6/20/1944 Margie Stringfellow Greene.
- John William Pye, 8/31/1892-7/21/1965, married Ludie Theo Jordan (5/24/1916-3/1/1896).
- Joseph Christopher Pye, jr., 9/26/1893-8/14/1894.
- Annie Rachel Pye, born 9/11/1895, married Wilbur George Kurtz on 2/9/1949.
E. Martha Samantha Pye, born 2/2/1856, died 9/10/1880, married on 12/18/18279 John Wesley Woodall.
F. Ida Rachel Pye, born 7/20/1858, died 9/15/1927, married on 1/13/1881 Henry Thomas Woodall. Had two children.
G. Johnnie Velula Pye, born 5/1/1862, died 3/15/1933, married 12/9/1884 Dela Fletcher Woodall. Had six children.
H. Narcissus Jane "Jennie" Pye, born 10/9/1867, died 11/14/1940, married on 12/18/1891 Benjamin Artemis Smith.
I. William Benjamin Pye, born 4/6/1869, died 2/28/1907, married on 12/19/1894, Estelle Norris who died 6/15/1958.
III. Martha Pye was born 12 May 1825 in Monroe County, Georgia, died 23 March 1878 Tyler,
Texas, buried Dean Cemetery, Tyler, Texas, married William Henry Chambliss on 7 July 1844. SEE Chambliss Genealogy.

Benier Pye was born 1807 in Georgia, died 1876 in Monroe County,
married Cuzziah (born 1809). His LWT dated 20 November 1876, probated 28 November 1876, Monroe
County. Issue:
I. William A. Pye, born 1834 Monroe County.
II. Sarah Jane Pye, born 1838 Monroe County, married Mr. Fambro.
III. Martha S. Pye, born 1840 Monroe County, married Mr. Flynt. Issue:
A. Martha Flynt.
B. Kerziah Flynt.
IV. Shady Ann Pye, born 1837 Monroe County, married Mr. Freeman.
V. Mary R. Pye, born 1846 Monroe Couty, married Mr. Tally.
