Pounds Lineage of Richmond, Virginia to Georgia

Sylvester Pounds descends from a family which resided in both Richmond and Orange Counties, Virginia and migrated to Greene, Jackson and finally Gwinnett Counties, Georgia. He was born 1842 in Gwinnett County, Georgia and died 1926 in Stone Mountain. He was married on 8 June 1865 in DeKalb County, Georgia to Mary Elizabeth Ragsdale (pictured here). They settled in Chamblee, which was the old Cross Keys District of DeKalb County as evidenced by the 1880 Census. Sylvester's first home was blown down by a cyclone. The second home was built by neighbors and friends. They had seven or more children.

Sylvester was the son of Richard Davis Pounds who died 1888 in Gwinnett County, buried in the Pounds Cemetery in Tucker, Georgia. Issue:

  • Nancy A. Pounds, born 1871 in DeKalb County
  • Charley S. Pounds, born 1873 in DeKalb County

  • William E. Pounds, born 1879 in DeKalb County

Legend

John Pounds was born 2 Aug 1713 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond, Virginia and had son, Reuben Pound, born 1730 in Richmond, Virginia, died November 1797 in Greene County, Georgia. Reuben and his wife, Deborah Lewis Pounds came to Georgia around 1785 and settled in Greene County. Their children: John (died 1791); Sarah; Richard (1754-1807); Merriman (1760-1743). Richard (above) settled in Jefferson, Jackson County, Georgia where he died on 6 June 1807. Richard and his wife, Mary, had issue: Sarah; Catherine; Elizabeth; Mary; John R. (1786-1880);Newman Madison (1795-1871); Martha (1800-1876); Merriman (1785-1883). John T. Pounds (above) was born 20 Dec 1786 in Augusta, Georgia, died 25 Dec 1880 in Gwinnett County, buried in the Pounds Cemetery, Tucker, Gwinnett County, Georgia. John T. was married to Ann Rainey. Issue: Mary; Eleanor; Attalia; Margaret; Richard Davis (1818-1888); Marion (1811-1877). Richard Davis Pounds (above) was born 5 Dec 1818 in Clarke County, Georgia, died 15 Aug 1888 in Gwinnett County, buried in the Pounds Cemetery, Tucker, Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was married to Nancy Narcissus Corder (born 1 Sep 1822, died 9 AUg 1900). Issue: Barlow; Sylvester; Eliza Jane; Cristine Evaline; John; James Carlos; Augustus; Louisa Evelyn; Mary Elizabeth; Paulina Ann; Narcissus Ophelia; Eleanor L.
