Guillame du Porch, one of the French gentleman escorts who came to America with Marquis de LaFayette. In 1779 when he was on leave to France, Guillame and his young wife had their only child, and the following year when his mother died in childbirth, the child was sent to America. The boy was named Guillame, but anglicized into William.
Guillame du Porch died at the age of 49 near Yorktown, Virginia on a small farm of 200 acres which the U. S. Government gave him for his service during the Revolutionary War. His son, William, as 19 years old at the time, and he married Peggy Slatt of New Kent County, Virginia.
