Pope of Isle of Wight County, Virginia and Halifax County, North Carolina


William Pope (1634-1700) was married ca 1660 to Marie and two years later received a land patent in Richmond County, Virginia. William was a Quaker. On 8 Oct 1656 William Pope received a land grant of 196 acres in Nansemond County, Virginia, adjoining Capt. Thos. Godwin's land, due to said Pope for transporting four persons; later granted 200 acres. On 25 Jul 1665 he was granted 950 acres in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. The births of his children were listed in the Southern History Assn. Publications:
”William Pope son of the aforesaid William and Marie was born the 15th of the 8th month 1662; Henry 30 Nov 1663; Alse was born 8th month 1667; John Aug 6th 1670.” Issue as follows:
