Perry from Virginia, North Carolina to Georgia




Phillip Perry was born 1599 London, England, died 9 Oct 1669 Isle of Wight Co., Virginia, m. Grace. Issue: James Perry; Jacob Perry d. 1777, his LWT dated 1777 Perquimans Co., N. C. (naming issue, viz: Jacob, Israel, Reubin,Dempsey, John and Anne; Joseph Perry; Phillip Perry and John Perry.

John Perry, son of Phillip, lived in the Isle of Wight Co., Virginia m. Mary in Perquimans Co., North Carolina, and had issue: Jacob d. Oct 1777; Israel d. 1779 Perquimmans Co., N. C., his LWT naming issue, viz: Josiah, Israel, John, Cader, Jacob and Mary; Phillip d. 1751; John and Joseph.

Phillip Perry, son of John Perry, of Perquimans Co., N. C. purchased from Jacob Perry 7/14/1724 land in sd co., adj. Benjamin Perry. He owned hundreds of acres on ss of Perquimans River, part of which was known as Perrys Ridge. The land which he owned on the Little River was bequeathed in his Will to son, Jesse, dtd 1751, Perquimans Co., N. C. Wife, Judith. Issue: Sary, Mary, Jesse, Elizabeth, Rachel, Judith, Miriam, and Phillip. Also named in his Will were his bros., John, Joseph and Jacob. Phillip Perry III was the father of: Jeremiah Perry, John Perry, Francis Perry, Joshua Perry, Nathaniel Perry, William Perry, and Burwell Perry. These are the seven brothers who settled in Granville County, North Carolina in 1746 I am quite sure and positive that Phtllip Perry II was the father of Philip Perry III and that he and his wife Joan Hunter;Perry had these other children: Jesse Perry, Mary Perry, Alice Perry, ."Elizabeth Perry and Sarah Perry.

  • John Perry, b. Nansemond Co., Va., his LWT dtd 3/15/1796 Louisbur N. C., Franklin Co., naming issue: Solomon, Ruth, Rebecca, M~ry, Ida, Burwell, John, Abey, Jeremiah, Abraham, Bennett and Anna.

  • Burrell Perry was fifteen years old when he came to Granville Co., N. C.,now Franklin Co., in 1752. He d. ca 1803 Franklin Co., N. C., m. Elizabeth Massey. Issue: Colonel .Jerem~ah; Capt. .Joshua; Rachel; Mary; Burrell; Capt. John; and Edith.

  • Joshua Perry, d. Warren Co., N. C. 1792, his LWT of that date naming issue: Joshua, Priscilla, and Rebecca.

  • Nathaniel Perry, his LWT dtd 1790 Franklin Co., N. C., naming issue: Ephraim, Drury and Sarah.

  • William Perry.

  • Jeremiah Perry, d. bef 1771 Franklin Co., N. C. His children all removed to Ga. A History of The John Wesley Perry, Jr. Family, P. 61: Jeremiah Perry, the oldest of the seven brothers, had a grant of 1500 acres which he gave to his son, Jeremiah, Jr.; and he sold it to his Uncle Burwell Perry. The old Perry home was built on this tract of land which Burwell Perry purchased from Jeremiah Perry, Jr. This land has never been out of Perry hands, of which they are very proud. This old Perry home was built in 1750, and in a sense it was somewhat of a communal family project... Jeremiah was b. ca 1720 Va., came to Granville Co., now Franklin Co., in 1746 with land grants, and listed in various Franklin Co. deeds. Issue:
    1. Burrell Perry, removed to Ga., m. Hester Bird in Franklin Co., N. C., 12/11/1789, went to Warren Co., Ga. along with bro., Willis.

    2. Green Perry, d. Ga., 11/14/1629 Putnam Co.

    3. James Perry, removed to Ga., Rev. War Soldier, m. Elizabeth Valentine. He was b. 1759, d. Jasper Co., Ga. 1843.

    4. Thomas Perry, removed to Ga.

    5. Jeremiah Perry, .Jr., removed to Ga., Rev. War Soldier, m. Miss Elizabeth Folkner 1803 Warren Co. Ga.

    6. Willis Perry, removed to Georgia, Revolutionary War Soldier, b. 7/13/1756 Franklin Co., N. C., d. bef 1B30 Muscogee Co., Ga. His brother, Thomas,lived with him, or near him, in Jackson Co. Ga. in 1620. The 1820 Jackson Co. Census lists Willis as being over 45 yrs of age. His w., Kiddy, was b. 1757, d. 1819 Jackson Co., Ga., just before census. Her death is recorded in newspaper, Georgia Journal, dtd 10/28/1819: Mrs. Kiddy Perry, age 62, wife of Willis Perry, died November 29, 1819 in .Jackson County. Willis Perry first lived in Warren Co. Ga. where he was listed as resident, drawing 1805 Ga. Land Lottery, along with bro., Capt. Burrell Perry. Thomas Perry, another bro., was with him on 1620 .Jackson Co. Census and witd a Will in Jasper Co. of .John Anthony dtd 1815, in which Mr. Anthony named a son, Willis.The first record in Ga. of Willis Perry is in 1787 when the Williams Creek Church was organized and the deed for the land was given by Wiltis Perry, in Warren Co. Among m le members were Burwell Perry and Wiltis Perry,also some of their slaves. 7/12/1794 the church nominated Wiltis Perry and others to go and help the Day's Meeting House and endeaver to settle a matter between John Kirk and Jeffrey Basdel, Willis and Burrell joined the Masonic Order and were summoned to church conferences where they admitted they had sinned, retaining fellowship in church. Willis Perry was recd by baptism in the Little Briar Creek Church in Warren Co., no date, from DAR, Warren Co. Churches. He lived in Warren Co. between 1786 and 1816. In 1811 he recd a land grant in Warren Co. of 272 acres. 5/14/1813 the Ga. Treasury paid him'or making cannon carriage for the artillery co. of Milledgevtlle. From 1800 to 1816 he was buying and selling land in Jackson Co. In 1820 and 1821 Willis Perry drew land in Walton County from the land lotteries; in 1827 drew again, while resident of Muscogee Co. The Georgia Journal carried the obituary of his bro., Green Perry, dtd 11/25/1829: Green Perry died November 14, 1829 in Putnam County,Georgia, he was from Franklin County, North Carolina, but for the past several years lived in Georgia. His brother, James, b. 1759 in N. C., d.Jasper Co. in 1843, a Private in Rev. War on N. C. Line, receiving bounty grants for his service; m. Elizabeth Valentine, b. 1768, d. 1853, and his two known children, Penny, m. John Hand, and Keziah, m. Joseph J. Henderson. Issue of Willis Perry follows:
    a. Solomon Perry. Savannah Republican published 7/17/1821: "Solomon Perry died July 14, 1821 at Milledgeville, the son of Willis Perry, Sr. of Jacksoo County."

    b. Willis Perry, Jr., drew in 1820 and 1821 land lotteries, resident of Baldwin Co. Ga.

    c. Thomas Perry, b. ca 1805 Jackson Co., Ga., listed 1830 Gwinnett Co. Census.

    d. George Perry, b. btwn 1780/1790, listed 1830 Gwinnett Census.

    e. Hiram Perry, listed 1820 Jackson Co. Census, 1830 DeKalb Co. Census. This confirm:, reports at Ga. State Archives in some personal Perry papers sent by relatives that Willis Perry, Sr. had a son who went to DeKalb Co. Hiram was b. btwn 1774/1792, m. Nancy Flake from Wilkes Co., Ga., she d. 7/26/1841. Jackson County Appraisements, Invs. & Sales, 1832-39, P. 194: Return made by Hiram Perry, admr of Est. of Solomon Perry, dtd 1824. Issue of Hiram Perry follows:
    i. Isaiah Perry.
    ii. William Perry, b. 1832, Jackson Co. Ga.
    iii. Jeremiah Perry, b. 1810, d. 1841.
    iv. George Brown Perry, b. 5/5/1807 Jackson Co., Ga., m. 12/15/1831 Mirtha Chandler in Jackson Co. She moved with him to Douglas,Tx, where he d. 6/5/1856. George B. Perry purchased from James Wilson in Jackson Co., Sandy Creek, 118 acres, 4/8/1836, Jackson DB F, P.257. Floyd Co. deed dtd 11/30/1837, he sold to Wm. Crook 160 acres; and 12/20/1848 sold to Samuel Moore 160 acres, Floyd Co. He removed to Texas after 1848.
