Overton of Greene County

Thomas Overton was born 1803 in Virginia, died 1844 in DeKalb County, Georgia. He married Elizabeth Mitchell, born 1811 in Virginia, died after 1870 in Georgia, the daughter of John Mitchell and his wife, Margaret. Thomas Overton was found in Taliaferro County in 1830. Elizabeth Overton was listed on the 1850 Greene County Census. She married (2) John Evans. The LWT of the brother of Elizabeth, Thomas A. Mitchell, dated 17 February 1859, probated 4 November 1861 in Taliaferro County, named his sister, Elizabeth Overton, now Evans, the widow of Thomas Overton. Issue:

• Walter Alexander Overton, born 15 February 1830 in Greene County, died 21 December 1900 in Corinth, Mississippi. He married Mary Frances Elizabeth Beazley (born 3 November 1830 Georgia, died 18 November 1872 in Corinth, Mississippi) on 9 August 1853. Issue:

  1. Ada Catherine Overton, born 23 May 1854, died 1 April 1931. She married George D. Winston.
  2. Walter Alonzo Overton, born 26 January 1859 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, died 30 July 1923 in Corinth, Mississippi. He married Sarah Elizabeth Bennett (born 14 May 1865 in McNairy County, Tennessee, died 25 March 1951 in Corinth, Mississippi) in 1888. Issue:

     Charles Andrew Overton, born 28 September 1888 in Corinth, Mississippi, died 9 January 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee. He married 3 March 1914 Elizabeth Crutcher Topp (born 15 September 1895 in Greenwood, Mississippi, died 14 April 1967 in Los Angeles, California.

  3. Ida Isabella Overton, born 7 April 1862, died 1938. She married Albert Jones.
  4. Julia Verona Overton, born 28 July 1865, died 25 November 1941 in Corinth, Mississippi. She married Andrew Dilworth.
  5. Charles Thomas Overton, born 6 January 1868 in Corinth, died November 1913.

• Susan J. Overton, born 1835. She married William H. Walker on 11 March 1856.
